Frequently Asked Questions
What do I do if there is an emergency?
If you have a medical emergency or other serious emergency, call 911 immediately.
How do I connect to the internet?
WiFi Username: The Blade House
WiFi Password: BLADEHOUSE
There are 3 router boosters spread throughout the home to assure the fastest internet speed.
What if we lose power?
Stay Calm. The drawer next to the stove has flash lights & candles. If you happen to lose power, text or call me and I can get an update from our electric company. They are really good about getting it turned back on in a timely matter. We can assure you the fireplace can heat the entire upstairs area as that is what we primarily use. Make sure the fan is turned on, switch is around the right side behind the fireplace wall. It will turn on once it gets hot enough, just make sure it is in the upright position when using the fireplace. It will then automatically turn on. There are extra blankets in closets with most of them in the downstairs bedroom closet.
Are dogs allowed?
We do allow dogs to stay in the home. There is a $125 dog fee for up to 3 dogs. Any noticeable damage to the home will result in additional fees to fix. Additional dogs are allowed with a fee of $25 per dog, per night. Please get permission for additional dogs before booking.
What comes with the pet fee?
There is a spacious dog bedroom and dog shower located on the lower level. The bedroom has dog beds and 1 large kennel should any dogs need to be separated during their stay. The bedroom has a doggy door that leads to a fenced in area. We prefer all dogs stay in the downstairs area and have a gate at the top of the stairs to make it easier in keeping them from coming upstairs. We do not allow dogs to sleep in any of the beds. If your dog needs to stay in your room, please provide a kennel for the dog to stay in. There is also a separate dog run located in front of the home with a dog house to give your pups a little more room if needed. This dog run is open based on snow as we do not remove snow from this area. Please pick up after your dog and be cautious of the wildlife that lives in our backyard.
Do we need 4 wheel drive to get to the house?
We always recommend being prepared during winter months. 4 wheel drive is not required however if there is a hazardous storm, your vehicle may need chains for the tires. We recommend bringing these with you as our town will run out of supply during heavy storms.
Does the road to the house and driveway get plowed if we are there during a snow storm?
Yes, the village does plow our road down to Hwy 434. We will also plow the driveway before you arrive. Should the driveway need another sweep or two before your departure, our maintenance crew will be on call to provide that service at no additional cost.
Where do I get more firewood?
The home should be stocked with enough firewood to last you throughout your stay however should you run out, feel free to bring some down from the split wood pile located up behind our home.
If we do not want to use the fireplace, is there another heat source?
Yes, the home is lined with radiant heating. The home will be set to 65 degrees before arrival unless otherwise communicated. You are welcome to turn the heat up, please understand it may take some time for the temperature to raise. It will also take time to lower the temperature if you get too hot. Please turn thermostats to 55 degrees upon departure, do not turn off.
Can we wear our shoes inside the house?
Boot/shoe caddies are provided at each entrance to hold footwear. We prefer outdoor shoes not be worn inside the home, especially during the wet months. We recommend packing slippers or inside shoes for your stay.
Can we use the grill year round? Is propane provided?
The grill is available to use in the Spring, Summer & Fall Months. 1 full propane tank will be provided at no additional cots. Refills are available at the local Lowes Market in town. There will be an empty backup tank left in case you will need more than 1 tank during your stay. Please turn propane tank to the โoffโ position when not in use.
Can we use the hot tub?
The hot tub is always available during your stay. We provide 1 beach towel per guests. The hot tub is located on one of the top level decks and can be accessed through 2 of the bedrooms.
Who do I call if something needs to be fixed in the home?
If you find something needs attention, please call/text Mel anytime between 8am-5pm and we will schedule our maintenance team to come to the home. Please refrain from calling outside that window unless it is an emergency.
